I Think I Just Joined Scentsy

flowersI have a friend who has been trying to get me to “join Scentsy” for some time now. At first I did not even know what she meant by this phrase. It sounded like some sort of cult to be perfectly honest. But she explained to me that Scentsy is a company that sells scented candles or some such. She went on an on about how Scentsy’s mission is to “inspire people with beautiful fragrances and the memories and emotions they bring forth.” (I am pretty sure she used that exact phrase). She said they were looking for “passionate people who want to succeed on their own terms.” I did not know quite what to make of all this jargon she was talking about. It seemed to me that she had joined Scentsy and Scentsy had taken over.

Then she got down to brass tax. She said if I made the decision to join Scentsy I could earn 20 to 36 percent commission on my sales with bonuses depending on my performance. I asked her why there was such a range in the amount of commission earned. She told me that new consultants (that would be my title once I joined) earn 20 percent on the first 1,000 points in “Personal Retail Volume” and 25 percent on all subsequent sales. In addition I could earn a 9 percent bonus on “Personal Wholesale Volume” based on rank. At this point I could feel my eyes begin to glaze over. She continued on and on about all expenses paid trips, learning valuable business skills and how I would make new friends with customers, hosts and all the other consultants. This is really the last thing I remember before I passed out and collapsed to the floor. Then I remember having a dream. I do not remember the exact content of the dream but I do recall the distinct presence of cinnamon and cloves. When I awoke I found myself alone in my bed with the strange sensation that I had somehow joined Scentsy and there was no turning back.

The Short Inside Scoop on how to Avoid Men Developing Cold Feet before a Wedding

wedding_33Warning to all Salt Lake City Brides! The following might come off a little sexist and is probably not what a bride wants to read. But if she is concerned about her groom developing cold feet before their wedding she would do well to consider the following.

Planning the Wedding Itself

First of all, researching wedding venues in Salt Lake City can give any man cold feet.  As such, I firmly believe all or most wedding planning should be done by the bride or at least someone other than the groom. If the bride truly wants to minimize the chances of the groom developing cold feet before the ceremony she would do well to take this under advisement.

This is especially true if the bride and groom are paying for the wedding as the cost of a wedding can be very expensive. The average cost of a wedding in the United States is $26,444.00 and the average cost of a wedding in Salt Lake City is roughly half that amount at $13,365.00. Still that is a large chunk of change for most people.

Another reason a groom might get cold feet when researching wedding venues is the thought of who to invite, where they all will sit and who they will sit next to. This is a massive headache because (and I am speaking from experience) almost every decision made regarding planning the wedding will result in at least one relative or friend being offended. I do not know why this happens specifically with respect to wedding planning. I would think most people would be happy for the young couple and put aside their own concerns but for some mysterious reason this just is not the case. Long story short; keep the groom out of all these decisions.

The Longer Term

The other factor influencing the development of cold feet is the groom dwelling on the long term reality of marriage. Men (particularly men younger than their mid 30’s) will propose to a woman thinking everything is going to be great. But as the wedding date approaches the reality of his decision to propose will loom ever larger. One way to minimize any fear based thoughts that may lead to cold feet is to schedule the wedding date as soon as possible after the proposal. If this is an impossibility, the bride to be should do everything in her power to distract the groom from thinking about the long term in the run up to the wedding. What the most effective distraction is will vary from groom to groom but this is probably knowledge the bride should have before looking for wedding venues in Salt Lake City. Good luck!

Decorative Bark or Gravel? Decisions You Need to Make in Order to Have the Perfect Flower Garden This Season

The key to having a beautiful flower or vegetable garden isn’t just the flowers and seeds you choose to plant. A lot of how well your garden does depends on the soil or mulch you use. Sometimes deciding on a potting soil or bark mulch might seem daunting, but here are a few things to consider when making your decision. It really isn’t that complicated.

Using rock or bark mulch can be one of the greatest things you can do for your gardens this season. Mulch is essentially a mixture of material (usually wood or rubber) that is spread on top of natural soil to protect it against erosion or moisture.

Decorative bark

Using a decorative bark or rock mulch in your garden offers many benefits to the longevity of your garden, but most people use it as way to boost their curb appeal and add the ‘Wow’ factor to their landscaping. Using bark mulch will also help plants keep an even soil temperate, as well as help to keep them moist during hot summer days. Mulch often helps prevent weed growth and offers less maintenance for your garden.

Want a Low Maintenance ground cover?

If you decide you want a low maintenance garden, decorative gravel might be your best bet. Decorative gravel or rock mulch is used as ground cover and is fairly easy to install. It is a low maintenance option if you’re not the traditional ‘gardening’ type. Most forms of decorative rock are mined from river bottoms so the rocks are smooth and pleasing to the eye. Rock mulch is also great for conserving water, since it allows soil to retain its moisture, thus allowing you to water less frequently.

Your Soil is Important!

Soil type is another thing to consider when deciding where to start your vegetable garden or plant your flowers. Before you begin planting it might be helpful to dig up a small area of your garden in order to see the kind of soil there. Generally dark soil is the best and usually contains more organic matter. Most garden plants will grow better in soils that have higher organic makeup. If the soil is brownish red or yellow,  that could signal drainage problems or that the soil isn’t receiving suitable air. In this case purchasing some potting/topsoil might be beneficial. You can go to any home improvement store or gardening center to purchase a potting soil that best fits your needs. You’ll want to make sure it provides the proper amount of drainage and extra nutrients that will help your plants flourish.

Considering your  ground cover options  will help your garden  succeed!

When you consider your options (decorative bark, gravel, or mulch), your garden will have a better chance at succeeding and becoming the perfect accent to your home. There are many options of groundcover to choose from depending on your level of gardening experience and preference. Just make sure you choose the option that suits you and your gardening needs. After that, the rest is simple and you’ll be ready for a great summer!
